The best oil for your B235R engine is GM Dexos2 5W-30 as stated in your car's manual. Do not consider any other brand.
Do not modify the engine (other than maybe a Hirsch upgrade).
Ignore this advice about using Hirsch only. Go see Karl - Saabnoob. Do not modify the engine (other than maybe a Hirsch upgrade).
The blanking off or "the bolt mod" as it is commonly known in the Saab circles only returns the car back to how it came from the factory in terms of performance and boost etc. It is removing the effect of having a defective one way valve in the vacuum system.
I have done it on my 2002 9-5 Aero and it made a difference because I was experiencing low boost, however this was done in conjunction with replacing all my vac hoses so not sure exactly where the issue came from.

My 02 9-5 Aero has just passed 230000 miles and runs well on orig turbo etc although possibly a bit sluggish away from lights.Im thinking of stage 1 remap would like to hear views on that. Also im using 5-30 oil would another grade be better for the engine?
It's also worth mentioning that even a stage 1 could highlight some issues or weaknesses of various components, especially ones that have done so much work.Gassing Station | Saab | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
