2000 saab 9-3 convertible cruise control not working.

Good morning gentlemen. I am having an issue with the cruise control in my pride and joy. The cruise control has never worked since I purchased the car and I am ready now to,tackle the issue after sorting out various other niggles. This one would make my life so much easier though. The cruise light comes on when the switch is engaged, but no cruisey action takes place. I would love some advice. Could it be something as simple as a fuse? Could it be the stalk? Could it be the switch at the end of the stalk? As usual any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.
