freak incident last night in saab- indicator light blew off

I was driving my car last night on the motorway and the entire drivers side indicator light unit just simply ripped off , scratched the front wings and disappeared.

the car now is parked on my street with no indicator unit on it.

of course I am going to drive to the garage on Monday and get a new indicator light, but I was wondering what the police would do if they see me driving the car?

Sorry no help with your answer but the same thing happened to my Aero, it was apparently a known problem - the locating tab (I think) breaks off. Put a small dent in the wing but luckily the wires held so it never went flying off.
