Newbe to Saab ownership (been on PH for years)
Discussion
I have just purchased what is fast becoming a project, and have a few issues which I wouldn't mind some advise on....
A 2000 (X plate) Saab 9-5 HOT Aero estate (manual) with 119,000 miles on the clock.h
Was looked at & picked up by a friend near Leeds & driven back to London & all appeared ok (averaging 38mpg on the M1 ). I went to pick the car up yesterday from friends house, and found the clutch pedal on the floor ! So it was flat bedded back last night thanks to the RAC.
This morning, jumped in the car, and pumped the pedal a couple of times & "pop", a working clutch again (I tried this yesterday to no avail). Some digging around in the foot well reveals a lot of grease like gloop on the spring above the clutch master cylinder, so I have a feeling the seals are shot - there is some evidence of black bits in the brake/clutch reservoir, but it looks old (nothing still floating) - so am now looking at master cylinder replacements...... Has anyone experienced this before ? Now the clutch is working, the biting point seems nice & low, so the actual clutch seems ok.
The other 2 issues, is there is a nasty thump when the engine first starts, so I'm suspecting an engine mount is gone somewhere (is there a common one to go?), and the other issue, is the silver boost pipe to the turbo is held together with duct tape ! So I would imagine I'm not getting anything like full boost - some people really amaze me with their mechanical knowledge.
Having had a good nose around forums, looks like general advice is to remove the sump & give the gause & sump a really good clean (service history is very patchy) - is it worth using some engine flush before hand as well ?
Sorry for all the questions - hoping I'll have a god car at the end of all this !
