2001 saab 93 autoconvertible
Discussion
Hi I am wondering if anyone can help/advise me with a problem I have? I am looking to buy a used saab as in the subjec. It has 63, 000 and full s/h.
I took the car fo a tes drive and found that I had to apply quite a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to stop. The seller said it was probably as the car had no been use for some titime and this was evident as there was some rust spots on the disc surface the pads also looked quite low.
My question is can anyone let me know if there is a known problem with saab brakes or common problems that have these symptoms. Any advice would be really useful as I want to buy the car but not have to pay out a fortune to sort the brake? Thanks

2001 9-3 Turbo diesel here. Never had any issues with the brakes.
However, there was a known fault with these cars that the front bulkhead developed a split around the mounting for the power steering rack. There was a recall and they are usually plated a this point. Its expensive to get done but SAAB paid at the time.
I've also got issues with rust around the rear wheel arch and the turbo intercooler went a while ago, so look out for these too. Other than that it was the best car I've owned for the money.

I dont think you will get any brake issues on a SAAB that would cost any where near 700 quid to put right; calipers, carriers, discs etc are all plentiful and reasonably priced should you need anything
Tbh i think if you changed the fluid and the pads you would see a difference straight away
