Hi all,

I have a 2003 Saab 93ss Aero

Under load (when in red on the boost), I get a misfire which will pop a code (cannot remember which one it is - will find out later). The code said that it was a misfire on cylinder 1 or 2, or the ionization module.

I have replaced the ionization module - no joy

I have replaced the plugs with the correct NGK plugs (NGK PFR6T-10G) and gapped them to 0.9-1.0mm

No joy

I then bought 2 secondhand coils and fitted. This helped for a really short while, but then the problem returned.

I then swapped the plugs from 1 and 2 with those in 3 and 4 - no change in code, indicating the plugs are fine.

Did the same with the coils and that didn't change the code either, so that makes me think the coils are fine too! Very confused now.

I applied dielectric grease to all coil boots. No change.

I have applied contact cleaner to all coil pack connectors. No joy.

HELP ME PLEASE!!

You've done everything I'd have tried!
I'd try some brand new coils (rock auto in the states seem cheapest)
If that doesn't work

Garage next...

Well that is reassuring and irritating in equal measures!

eBay seem to have brand new coils for about £60 each, but free delivery which is something that rock auto cannot do (something like £20 for one coil, £30 for 4) which is a bit steep.

eBay also has some second hand ones at a fraction of the price. A false economy, maybe, but it will allow me to test 3 or 4 "new" ones for the price of 1 genuinely new coil.

Thanks for the reply smile

Just to close this off, I ended up replacing yet more coils and it fixed the problem.

Full boost and a worryingly low MPG have returned, so things are normal again... smile

Cheers!
