Good evening!

I have a 2005 9-5 Aero which I am looking to upgrade slightly. I came from a 9-3 Aero (2001) which I had remapped by Abbott Racing, and was fantastic, and am looking to do similar with the 9-5. Ideally I would like to hit/exceed the 300 hp mark, along with brakes etc. as well.

My question is: Go with Abbott Racing for as much as possible, or go to various places (noobtune, jetex or similar exhaust etc) bearing in mind cost, quality, and the fact that Abbott Racing is 210 miles from my house.

Also, I would like the exhaust to be as quiet as standard.

Appreciate any help and replies.

Map- Noobtune (Username Saab noob on www.uksaabs.co.uk) Karl's done loads of the guys cars on UKS and has a fantastic reputation, he'd be my first port of call.....I wouldn't go anywhere else tbh.

Exhaust- price up a 3" dp from an exhaust builder, maybe factor in a race cat but if the cat back systems ok I'd probably keep it and get the DP fabbed up to fit. You won't notice much (if any) increase in oomph with a sports cat back system only noise. The extra power comes from the 3"DP.

I think you'll also need a 3.5 bar fpr to get it at stage 3 with the DP & remap.

Suspension/brakes- Neo brothers (top guys & incredibly helpful)

Abbott do some great kit, my old 9000 had loads of Abbott bits fitted but you do pay the premium here. Keep an eye on eBay as some used Abbott parts pop up now and again.

Impressive garage there :-)

That's good to know, do 3" Downpipes make them any louder? I really quite like the motorway ability and lack of noise intrusion, and being able to poke it a bit without turning heads all down the road :-P Any recommendations for the DP?

FPR is a good call, and I guess it would be better to do these things before the remap so it can be best tuned, or will it not matter too much?

I saw neobros, thought that would be a good source :-)

Thanks

I didn't notice any increase in noise on my old DP but I think some have?

The FPR is just required for stage 3 mate, stage 1 is just the remap. If it were me I'd go straight to 3 smile but check about the clutch as it might slip with the extra torque?(I think it'll be ok though)

So 3" DP
3.5 FPR
Stage 3 remap (Karl)

I think there's another 3" DP group buy on Uks with one of the guys on there making them in batches of 5 or 10? They're not cheap but the quality is very good. I'd still take a look around though, try places like long life or Prospeed etc. might be cheaper?

Neo's have always been great for me, they did have a cracking deal on maptun springs/Bilstein dampers. Also sell EBC yellow stuff pads for a good price (firm favourite with me!!)

For a tuning guide most of us use Maptuns site to get a better idea of what's what:

When I had my 9-3 Aero Hot done a few years back, I went with APL Saab (they are a MapTun agent) http://www.aplsaab.co.uk/

They are based in Lancashire if that's any nearer? I found them good.

Thanks, looks like the same sort of distance as Abbott, I'm in Bristol :-P Doesn't seem to be many Saab performance specialist garages around ;-)

One more question, does the 3.5 bar FPR have to go on after the remap or can it be put on before? I'm just thinking about the order in which to get things put on, as my mechanical ability is next to useless!

Thanks

I think Jamsaab (Martin) isn't far from Bristol? He's got a great rep in the Saab community.

Also just over the bridge in Cardiff there's South Wales Saab Specialists (SWSS) I've been going there for years, they'll do pretty much anything from a simple service all the way up to a stage 6 build like I had done on my 9000. Top guys wink

Neo Brothers also do a lot of modified cars and are excellent but I'm not sure how far they are?

I'd fit the 3" DP first, then get the fpr and either take it with you to see Karl (Saabnoob) and fit it for the remap or if your sending the ecu off to get mapped to stage 3, just fit it when you get the ecu back.

There's a lovely 9-5 being broken on UKSaabs right now. Some very tasty kit on there...
