If your central locking has packed up, yet you have replaced the fob battery and still no joy? Then try this remedy with about half an hour and a can of Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray. (I've found that this is a pretty common little gremlin on the 9-3 and possibly on the 9-5 also)....

- Disconnect the Neg. Battery Terminal
- Leave Disconnected for 30 minutes
- Unplug all the door connector plugs (looks like a Scart Plug)
- Use a Flat Headed Screwdriver to pop the cap upwards and the plug will disconnect from the door(s)
- Spray the contact cleaner on both connection points, wipe off any excess and leave for 5 mins to dry
- Reconnect the door plugs - simply clicks back into place and push the pop up cap downwards to engage
- Reconnect the Neg. Battery Terminal
- Place each of your Key Fobs into the ignition slot, for 20 secs to re-sync
- Start the car to run the SID Diagnostic Check - should show as all ok
- Turn Off and Try the Remote Locking Buttons
- With any luck your central locking will be restored to full working order
- The steering lock (at this stage) will not be working.
- Give the car a little run out and when you switch off the engine, you'll hear lock mechanism.
- Put the key back into the slot and it will click again to unlock.

If your locking is still not working, then trouble shoot the Central Locking Receiver Unit and you may need to visit a specialist.

Give this a whirl first as a can of spray is less than a fiver.

Hi there.

I just signed up specifically to say thank you for posting this. I just bought a 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible as a cheap summer runaround and have managed to fix the remote locking and the cabin fan through kind people posting tips like yours.

THANK YOU!
