Does my 93 have a GM engine?
Discussion
I bought a SAAB 93 2.0t which is in beautiful condition, and then started reading all the SAAB sluge nightmares on 'tinternet
I was about to drop the sump and check for sludge, then realised my sump looks nothing like most of the internet guides.
Then I read that SAAB switched over to GM engines in 2003. My engine looks like this:
So is that a GM engine?
I guess these don't suffer sludge like the SAAB engine used previously>

Sludging also affected the original 9-3 as well. Best way to avoid it is to buy an Aero with good service history (so you know it's had the right oil used).
I believe Saab changed the ECU programming quite considerably, and along with a few other tweaks to the engine. Just enough changes to confuse a GM mechanic :-)
