If your stereo has packed up recently (or if you are buying a car with a dud stereo) then the immediate reaction is to say the Head Unit in the Dash Facia has had it, or its blown fuses etc.

However, if your indicators have stopped making an "Audible" noise as well, then the Stereo AMPLIFIER which is located under the Front Passenger Seat has probably packed up.

The Saab system uses Fibre Optics and when this Amp fails, it shuts down the entire system i.e. non-working head unit and non-working audible noise for the indicators.

So, you maybe tempted to just buy a replacement Amp, right? ..... Wrong! ..... New one's are in Excess of £500.00 and used one's from a reputable Saab Parts Specialist will still be £250.00+

You'll be pleased to know, its not a lost cause and there is a solution for Under £40.00!! with an AMP "By-Pass" Service. This gives you back your indicator noise and your stereo system. You can remove and refit the Amp yourself > very easy to unbolt and unplug.

The only negative is that you lose x2 front door speakers and x1 centre dash speaker, but for £40.00 who cares!! Better than paying hundreds of pounds, plus the 9-3 has about 100 speakers anyway, so you won't notice any difference tbh.

I had a look at the amp today - it is pretty exposed to rain when you open the door. I'll be taping over those exposed vents asap.
