9-5 drive belt tensioner
Discussion
I'm at the point where I should be changing the drivebelt and idler pulleys again - I did it about 3yrs ago and it was easy-peasy but this time I followed the Haynes book and not so good!
You put a socket extension into the nice square hole and release the tension from the belt - the book says rotate anti-clockwise.... it's wrong and the side of the square casting has now broken off and there isn't enough purchase to turn the right way now
So, it needs a new tensioner. The fitted belt looks fine, no cracks or splits, but it's the idlers I worry about. Do they still give up the ghost like the original ones could do? I could just leave it.....
I think the only way to change the tensioner now is to cut the belt and then replace the whole unit with a new one - are the ones from ECP or Partsforsaabs ok(Scantech?) and is it just held in by a centre bolt?
Bloody Haynes!
