This is weird. I've just bought an MX5 (oh yes) and need to sell my Classic 16v 900 vert but I can't find anything on PH, eBay, Autotrader or anywhere else that has any for sale so that I can make a comparison, there's just none out there! What gives? MIne's a 1990, red, 12 months MOT, 6 months rent, 164000 miles, starts, goes, stops, does everything it should, in average condition (concours it ain't) and in all other respects is absolutely fine. Hell, even the heated seats still work. I bought it a year ago for £950 and thought I might stick it in for £750.
Any thoughts anyone?

Cheers, not much on there either. The only thing that comes near is an H plate that's in tip-top condition and he wants £3k for it(!). Mine doesn't even come close.I think I'l just bang it on eBay for £750 once the MOT's squared away and see what happens. No pictures yet but will get round to doing them later this week.

Yep, has all of those.Rust?
Headcloth?
Service history?
Engine as already stated, 16000 miles. Tappy on start up, gone within less the a minute, pulls strongly, no smoke or horribleness.
Rust in the usual spots. Broke through on the bottom of passenger door and bubbling on rear wheel arch. Driver's side door, rust on inside bottom of door.
Presume you mean lining on the convertible roof? Yes, it has that.
Well, it's a 22 year old car some it has A service history but commensurate with its age.
Like I said, it ain't a concours car but it's pretty solid and does everything it's supposed to do and probably will for a little while yet.
Any rust? Check door bottoms, driveshaft tunnels, boot floor, rear arches, and front crossmember.
What engine? Turbo? LPT? 16v? 8v?
IMHO they are bona fide classics now but currently the market is on its knees for cars like this. I was told by a guy who knows the cars that mine is probably worth 5-6k, and while I might insure it for that, it is worth what somebody will pay. I have seen really nice cars go for much less than they are "worth" - somebody on here could barely even give a 900 Ruby away Somebody said it in another thread a few months ago, but the market has dropped out of the sub-10k toy market. Stuff has to be very cheap.
I would wait until spring and spruce it up for sale.

As before, 16v, rust where I've said it is and I haven't had a chance to look at the other areas as it's having some MOT work done. To be honest, I don't particularly want to start ripping a 22 year old car apart to look for more rust. If I stick it on saabscene I'd imagine the chaps on there would have a fairly good idea of what to look for and make a reasonable opinion about the car. I'm just being as honest as I can based on the knowledge I've got.
Sorry Drek, missed the post about the rust.
Sounds like the usual bits. Depends how bad the arch rust is - can be a lot worse on the inside. Door rust not a biggie though. 16v is a nice engine but many people may want the turbo. Wash, polish, tidy, fresh MOT and stick it up for sale in March/April

The MX-5 is a terrific drive and not much beats wringing the neck of that rorty twin cam on a crisp morning on your favourite B-roads; the 900 is such a good cruiser and utterly classless. You could turn up to an awards ceremony in a nice 900 convertible. So much character
I've had both - still got the 900 (Mind you my MX-5 was a slightly tatty import with boneshaker suspension...)
