Hi,

I am trying to help a friend who has a problem with her 2007 9-3. The SID is saying the front right fog light has failed. It has not. I have done my best searching for an answer. Commonly people say it is a sign one or both bulbs are about to fail. I have tried replacing both bulbs but the message is still there.

I have also tried looking for the relay that handles the frong fogs in case it has dirty contacts. I can not find which one it is.

Do any of you have an idea as to where I can look next to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Ian

I think something similar happened when my battery was on the way out...mine is 2007 too, so if she is on the original battery it is worth checking.

Thanks, we have had a few -3*C mornings here and the car has started fine. So while the battery is still the original it does have some life left in it. I will get it checked anyway. Was yours only one warning or lots of different ones? This is always front right fog light.

I think mine was one of the headlights - again always the same one.

Mine had a period of oddly diagnosing failed bulbs, front and rear. I chased the problem for a few days, then it went as quickly as it came. Odd.

I was a little convinced it was early alternator failure after reading a few posts here and there - never materialised though, thanksfully.

I have a 9-5 Edna Estate, the indicators double flash as though there is a bulb out, but they all work. On hazard it flashes normally.

Very annoying as I can drive it all day with now issues, the next day it does it all the time.

If anyone has an answer it would be very much appreciated.

I checked the rear and side bulbs, however to get to the front you have to take the bumber off!!!!

the check function is a basic voltage test - somewhere one of the bulbs will be throwing up a mismatch and triggering the fail message. sometimes a wiggle around is enough to reseat and restore voltage, alternatively change in pairs so as to keep the readings matching

The act of one bulb blowing affects the resistance in the other good one, and hence the message. Replace in pairs.

Thanks for the replies. I have changed both bulbs, cleaned the fog light connector on the left side of the under tray and wiggled all the fuses. No effect.

The alternator and the battery are both fine.

My only remaining guess is the ECU that does the voltage comparision is failing.

My 9-5 estate used to do this all the time, especially in the winter. Turned out to be moisture in there, must have created a short which tricked the system. Nothing compared to the low voltage alarm issue though...

Get this occasionally, either side front indicator. Clean up the housing and bulb base, or you can just clear the SID warning and it will probably revert to working normally anyway after a few flashes.
