Hello everone! I'm new to this forum so hi to all the pistonheaders out there! Especially those from The New Forest ( where i was born), and all those ex-pats ( currently in France ). I've owned loads of GTI's , coupes and sports saloons in my driving existance but never owned a Saab? Strange but true! So, why should i want one now? Well i'm on the lookout for a new fast family saloon, one with turbo charged muscle, safe for driving long distances with the wife and kids, and isn't going to cost a fortune to run! I currently run a Renault Laguna GT 205, 2008 version, which although being pretty rapid on the French autoroutes, has let me down with its poor reliability! It's also quite boring to drive and Renault dealer servicing over here is just more and more expensive. Anyone out there had good ( or bad) experiences with a 9-5 aero? What's the reliability like? Should i go for a pre Dame Edna or post one? What about automatic or a manual? What are they like on a long distance run? I do a 130 km ( 80 mile) round trip everyday on the autoroutes near Paris. Petrol is about 1 euro 45 here, but i've heard that a Saab 9-5 can stand 50% bioethanol without any modifications. My local Carrefour sells E85 for 90 centimes the litre. Thanks in advance for your comments!

Just taken possession of a 2004 9-5 Aero. Can't fault it really, a quality car. For 250bhp however it's a little bit sober to drive...

nothing a re-map wouldn't sort out. I think 285BHP is achievable with stock filter / exhaust & stage one software. Never owned one but wd buy one in a second. Quality interior, easy to get more power out of the motor cheaply & decent handling for a FWD big car

Hi all,

I've had a couple of 9-5's in the past and am thinking about buying another Aero estate. However post Saab going belly up, are there issues with parts, servicing etc?

thanks

Had a lovely time driving my 2005 9-5 Aero in France this year - about 2500 miles all in. They do seem a pretty rare marque over there, so it would probably make sense to look ouit a good independent service/dealer. Mine`s a manual but the auto has a strong reputation too. Good luck if you get one!

No issue with parts, I have a local ish saab dealer who can supply all parts still and there is a decent amount of choice on line.
