Need some armchair diagnostics please chaps, have a read...

Exiting an island onto a dual carriageway, I gave it big beans in 2nd to get up to speed when I see what I initially think is white smoke billowing behind me, que the 'bing bong' of the SID telling me my coolant is low (i'd topped it up this morning). I immediately came off the throttle and looked at he temp needle which hadn't budged from the middle area it usually occupies, the white smoke/steam had also dissipated and the car was feeling all fine. Ensuring I was in a more sympathetic gear I eased onto the throttle again and everything still felt fine, no other warnings or needles moving so, only being a few miles from home I decided to limp home.

Pull onto driveway, switch off the engine and upon getting out I can immediately hear the fan going like the clappers, which is unusual for the journey but expected as the car had just shat it's coolant out. I lifted the bonnet as the fan cut to see coolant everywhere and an expansion bottle saying below minimum.

The engine is too hot to go delving with any intent but the majority of the coolant spillage appears to be to the right of the engine as you look at the car, above the gearbox in the hole between the block and the battery. I'm hoping it's a split pipe and not something more major/expensive.

What do you think?

Difficult to diagnose accurately. But firstly, when the car has cooled down, fill it with water, start it up and examine the engine bay for leaks.

Cheers Jensen, I had a good rummage around last night before it got too dark and i've found a split hose. I'm just online now trying to identify the right one before ringing the motor factors for a replacement.
