Guys

Using a 9-5 just now (2.3t) and I suspect the crank sensor is on its way out as it will not start when hot, leave it 15mins and it starts first time and there has been a few large miss-fire's.

So the question is... where the heck is it located??? I have had a look round the front of the engine and can not spot it? and a hunt on the www has also not helped?

From memory it plugs into the ignition casette on the RHS as you look at the engine, Follow the wires down to the other end.

Ours failed in an underground car park in Barcelona which was deep joy !

When you state "won't start", does it turn over but not catch, or sit there with dash lights on but refuse to engage the starter?

(Ours did the latter last night).

It's quite low down. Getting past the exhaust manifold is the tricky bit - Make sure the engine is cold!

This should help you though...

Thanks gents

Will have a hunt later on smile

Yep it spins over fine, but dose not catch. Leave it 10-15 mins and all is well

Not handy when you need petrol frown

Interesting. Ours had a "refuse to turn over" for a couple of goes, then fired up. Been fine ever since, but I just know it'll do it again at some suitably inconvenient point.

Any thoughts?

Used to carry a spare in the boot (along with a DI cassette). At least then you have the part for the AA man to fit!

If it's a started to be unreliable you can guarantee that it will let you down at the most inconvenient place. My first one (9-5) lasted 120k miles, the second 40k miles!
