How to replace the HID xenon light bulb on a 9-5
Discussion
Arrr my 9-5 must know i'm thinking of selling her, my nearside Hid xenon bulb has gone a dull purple, i've always kept clear of these high discharge things but Saab want £175 min to have a look and replace, its a tad expensive for a light for me . can any garage do it or is it in the relms of a home repair, advice most welcomed

That's unlucky. They are not supposed to fail. Very expensive if they do. PFS want nearly £90 for a bulb alone.Brett
No idea about self fit but you need to be aware of the self levelling requirements. No idea if that makes things more challenging but just be aware of it. For a unit you could try someone like Neo Brothers in the hope of finding a complete s/h item.
I mention the self levelling because, from memory, doing anything in the n/s light cluster is darned awkward and removal of the entire unit and refitting might be a sensible approach.
Well after some futher research and visits to other saab forums it should cost a very high sum of £31 !!!
Saab Sheffield quoted £175 just to change the busted one
You have to change both sides as the bulbs inside are only good for approx 3500hrs and the new one will make the other light look like a candle. the bulbs are D1S fittment and orignal spec are either phillips or Osram. My local factors stocked them at £72 a pop, and much the same every were else.
so evil bay came through again.
The lowest price was £25 each for osram from Ireland but i settled for some aftermarket ones for £31 a pair and a year guarentee. The main reason for this choice is that they trade from an industrial est just down the road.
There are so many combos like blue light etc but ive upgraded to a 6000wick from 4300.
Fitting is simple just power down the system by disconecting the battery leave for around 1/2 hr for residual static electricty to go. To change, it is the same as a normal bulb, remove old one and plug in new one.
