Evening all - looking at a car at the moment and I see it's due this service: http://www.saab9-5.com/serv/126k.htm

What sort of cost are we talking about at a decent indy for this service - any guidance would be useful, thanks!

I thought they were chains? Or is that only the Aero?

Afaik all petrol 4 pots are chains. Best ring round a few Indies as price varies. Where are you based?

It was the serpentine ancillary belt. I was quoted £361.16 incl VAT for the 126K mile service including it.

I luckily spotted (on t'internet) last year Saab offering a special price for cambelt change on the 9-3 Tid including pulleys for £247. My supplying dealer did it for me but I of course opted to have the coolant pump replaced at the same time, total IIRC around £350. Was going to do it myself but got lazy.....

That's a good deal - I'm still searching for that elusive "right" car, but at least the 2.3HOT doesn't have a cambelt!

I think the diesels have a cam belt as already mentioned, the 9-5 Aero (which i have) deffo has a chain and chains for the balancer shafts.

Does it not depend on the year?

ETA sorry, didn't read all the posts. Of course it is the diesels, and then not the 2.2, which have a belt....doh

My 9-5 is also due this service, it's got the 2.3 turbo engine so does it need the drive chain replaced? it feels like the clutch is going to need doing in the near future and as i only paid £700 for it not sure i'm going to get it done or just scrap it?
