9-3 aero 1.9ttid 180bhp
Discussion
not much info knocking about on these compared to bmws, audis etc, having had a string of 3 series , A4s, VWs last saturday picked up an 08 plate saab so far very pleased with it doing 50 to the gallon very refined pretty quick and extremely comfortable anyone thinking of getting one and cant make up there mind do it you wont regret it, cant find anything to fault with it so far (fingers crossed) lovely leather seats, cracking stereo, big boot, nice dash lay out, well made lots of car for your money.
Picked up an 09 180bhp about 3 months ago. Not driving like an idiot, doing a lot of long runs, and the computer best is 47mpg (I reset it every month), but to be honest feel that overall I am averaging 45mpg when you take into account the weekend town stuff. Not disapointed, but just makinbg the point I can't return the 48mpg average that Saab claim, even on a long motorway run.
If you are getting 50mpg, you must tell me what I am doing wrong.
I do feel that this model offers great value for money compared for what spec you would get (cloth seats, no toys etc)with the same money spent on a BMW or Audi!

I had a brand new (11 miles on the clock!) one of these (with the 4 wheel drive option) as a hire car a couple of months ago.
Only used it for a couple of runs from Colchester to Dartford on the A12/M25 and no matter how I drove it, I couldn't get less that 48mpg (indicated).
It wasn't a bad drive at all - got moving off the line very well :-) Better than my own car ( Hirsched 2.8 SportWagon) up to about 20...
If possible, I'd try and find one with the optional seat upgrade - the standard ones are nowhere near as comfortable as the electric Aero seats I currently ave.

Re the seats, I know what you mean, I looked at a 'Turbo Eddition' and I felt like I was sat 'on the seats', rather than 'in the seats'.
The TTiD Aero I have, the seats are fine.
Re the MPG. When I researched / purchased mine about 3 months ago, it became apparent that Saab have been tweaking the engine almost on an anual basis, always maintaining the 180 BHP, but reducing the CO2 emmisions, and increasing the MPG. The latest model been called a TTiD4, sadly with no twin rear pipes which I think sets the car off. So the difference between an 09 & an 11 is reduction down to £99 tax rather than £125, and an increase in quoted MPG of 48MPG to 55MPG (tax and MPG from memory, but roughly right).
I did a few calculations, and much that I fancied a return of 55MPG, I would have never got the cost difference between an 09 & 11 back in petrol saving due to the high mileage I do, due to the high depreciation caused by the excess mileage.
