Following what seems years of looking, at last a decent SAAB C900 Ruby has turned up that would be in my price range...

...except I can't shift my stop gap car (which is OK, but no Ruby) so it looks like I am going to miss out on a belter.

Anyone have any stories of the ones that got away?

A mint 1986 C900 SPG in Edwardian grey near me for $1,200. I called the guy 20 min after the advert was posted and he had already sold it.

Never saw the attraction of a Ruby. How much is the one you're going to miss, and what is it you can't sell?

I do - all of the good late T16S stuff including redbox APC(plus that wonderful wool/hide upholstery) without being weighed down with 60 lbs of plastic along the sides. wink

With a set of 1993 9K Aero alloys it would approach perfection - well at least aesthetically. wink

Can't sell the Honda prelude in my profile.

The ruby is a very well looked after, rust free and 2 owner car for less than £3k.

And like 900T says, it is to my eyes, best in breed. All the go of a Carlsson, but with none of the show smile

BB.

You mean the granddad cloth inserts with equally dull road and steering wheels. That awful colour. Lack of sport handling kit and no body kit summed it up as a parts bin special. But each to their own.

I do know the whereabouts of what has to be one of the best 900 Carlsson's available for sale which is around your Ruby money. Cheap for a Carlsson, but of no use if you don't like the over exuberance of the body kit, lol.

... that keep you from sliding all over the place when using the car 'as intended'... the reason I never 'upgraded' to leather in mine back then, even with that car having great-granddad velour seats. wink

The inserts are Zegna wool BTW, and bodykits belong on Saxos. tongue out

Part of the fun of smoking around in a non-kitted SAAB is that at best most think that it is a classic and at worst that it is just some old car...

...only to be left scratching their head when that odd looking old car has farked off into the distance! biggrin Keep it stealthy, that is what I reckon. That said, I would not say no to a nice 185bhp 3-dr with the kit on, but it would come a distant second to a Ruby for my affections.

Of course, the next logical solution is to buy a nice last of the line SE or XS lpt and upgrade, but I have enough constraint on my leisure time as it is, and I don't think that the current Mrs BB would be over the moon with yet another non-working car being stranded on the drive!

Sliding all over the place in a leather seated 900 turbo? Now there's an impossibility unless yours handled like a water bed on wheels! That's the finest Bridge of Weir Scottish leather you know wink

If you slide about on 900 seats then you need to get a bigger arse.
