Hi Guys,

I'm posted to Germany and subsequently I've just sold my modern Alfa, MG, Spitfire and Jensen (ironically 2 of them to Germans). In their place I've bought a new BMW 3 Series, but I've got £3-4k left to play with.

Now without a classic car there is a risk that I won't spend my weekends in the garage swearing.... I was wondering what cheap classics I could get on the German market? Ideally something small, convertible, running/drivable (I don't mind doing cosmetic stuff), and something which I could bring back to the UK in a couple of years time and at least get my money back (a profit would be nice). So far I've only found 1980s Alfa Spiders and Quattro Coupes. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Regards,

or you could look at it the other way around....

I am seriously looking into buying a e36 M3 in England and bringing it over here. The idea really is for a weekend toy and something to tinker with. Yes I will eventually have to go through the hassle of getting it registered and the TUV but if I choose to sell it on here I would at least get my money back based on current values, even for a rechtslenker.

To answer the actual question you asked though, Alfa GTVs and Spiders from the late 90's are "reasonable" value in Germany. The best part is you can buy a 3L V6 Spider which was not available in the UK for the sort of money you are looking at. They also did some sort of turbo charged variant which again was the V6 but with a capacity reduced to 2L for some emissions bllx reasons.

Let us know how you get on smile
