A long shot this.

Lubusz province or Zachodniopomorskie are just over the border into Poland from Berlin. Does anyone know which town(s) would be good to visit for a day out in Poland? Somewhere a bit historical, for lunch and an afternoons stroll.

Thanks.

Whatever you do DON'T take the car!!! There are more car thefts on the polish border area than in all Germany put together!!

Thanks for the tip, and at least a reply smile

I doubt a 2008 RHD base model Fiat Panda would be much use to them, unless breaking it for new parts, but I'll be vigilant.

'Luigski' will be going home at least for a visit.

I starting hate Polish cops. They always will find how to take the money from u. Only in Poland u can see cops spitting sunflowers near the road with hand in the pocket.
Last time they gave me 100pounds fine for 2cm crack on windscreen and took my car docs, now 4 weeks still waiting them and can't travel with that car.
They always not polite, checking everywhere in the car damaging all panels.
I don't understand, if u don't have special equipment to scan cars wy try to check everywhere with the screwdriver and damage all plastics??? And that's Schengen calling. And all the same again everytime I going through PL.
If before was thinking about traveling in PL on my vacations not only for business, now priority to cross that country faster without any stops.
I wish u will not meet cops in PL due ur trip.

dunno how far you want to go, but Wroclaw has a lovely historic square and Lodz is apparently worth a look too.

Poland=the only country in the EU where I have had the displeasure of meeting corrupt cops.

Hmmm, I may not bother. I have plenty to see and do in Berlin for a week anyway. Probably just have a drive out of town but stay in Germany. The last time I drove anywhere in Poland was 1993, I felt like an alien in a space ship back then.
