Umweltzone stickers and old cars...
Discussion
I am now renting an apartment in the middle of an Umweltzone.
My camper is UK registered 1/1/84 and has a 5.2 litre engine running on Petrol/LPG. As it spends winters in the UK, and we have a house in the UK, I do not currently intend to register it here. I know I am possibly pushing my luck with this. However, we do intend to stay here for the foreseeable future, so we may have to register it as a German vehicle at some point.
The cut off date for an umweltzone sticker is 1/1/93, the vehicle is obviously much older than this, so I can't just apply for a sticker.
Does this mean I am simply not allowed to keep my camper in my parking space here?
After lots of googling and googletranslating, it looks like there is exemption for cars over 30 years, although some websites state this as 27 years. The camper is nearly 27 years old!
Can anyone confirm this? Are there any other options that I could explore? What if I was to retro-fit a catalyst? Are there any exemptions that I could look into? Has anyone else been up against this problem?

Cars have to be 30 years or older, this includes campers.
I had to sell my bay window Westfalia for the same reason.
Other option could be renting a garage just outside of the Umweltzone ?
Or trying to retrofit a catalyst converter and get an emission expertise afterwards,
serious suppliers should already have type-approval for their catted engines,
so your cost would be significantly lower not having to make a very expensive testing circle.
What type of engine/ Camper do you own ?

NB... there are NO exceptions to an Umweltzone, even the 30 year old cars on an H plate are NOT exempted! so no go there.... You'll have to get a garage outside the so-called "umweltzone"..
Not true - cars on "H" plates are exempted!!!Best regards
FF
1) the appropriate sticker
2) the exemption is clearly marked on the vehicle paperwork and (Tüv Eintragung, apparently difficult to get)
3) you have it with you when in the zone (it is advised ALWAYS to leave a photocopy of the relevant paperwork clearly visible on the dash)
