We have decided to look at purchasing a hotel in Germany. Somewhere scenic, not sure where at the moment. Black Forest maybe?

Anyway, I'm struggling to find websites with hotels for sale.

Anyone got any good links?

Just googled some pics of the area - very nice.

So, whats your inspiration for buying a hotel out there? Is it something you do in the UK or are you just looking to escape the rat-race and live the dream? beer

Here are a few in the SW corner of Baden, near the swiss border. One advantage is that you can always fill it when there is a trade fair in Basel (3 or 4 large worldwide fairs p.A.)

http://www.immonet.de/baden-wuerttemberg/loerrach-...

NB Bad Bellingen is a Kurstadt and thus always pensioners to fill your teestube or restaurant!

Hope these help..........

Thanks for the links JMGS4 we are looking at 2 in that area next week in fact.
I'm going to quickly go through that list though and see if anything else looks interesting.

We're leaving on Saturday to spend 10 days in Germany in both Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria. Taking the car, should be a good fun trip smile

Our motivation for leaving is two fold. One to leave the UK, never really been happy here, and its time to make that leap. Also we always fancied living somewhere in the middle of Europe, the scenery is stunning and I like the thought of being close to Switzerland and France both of which I have spent many happy times.

My current IT business can re-locate anywhere in the world without hiccup, so time to makes those dreams a reality.

There are some excellent hooning roads down in this corner of Germany as well!
NB, Hotels and restaurants are having a hard time ATM due to the downturn in the economy, so the normal once a week restaurant visitors are cuttting down. You also have to be aware that many country restaurants are also endangered due to the new alcohol limits (0.5mg i.e. 1 small beer or 1/2 glass wine), so a lot are turning to chinese or italian owned and cuisine.... also due to labour costs. Local people will not work for the "wage" that the eyties or chinese will pay.... So if you're thinking of a country Gasthaus you must be really sure of your staffing capabilities....
Also teh standard of food in the southern Black Forest is very high, due to the French and Swiss (and wine) influences... you have to really pay for a (good) chef, so unless you're an excellent cook and willing to do a normal 18 hour day, beware!
If you need any local info don't hesitate to PM me...

Thanks again JMGS4 for some very useful advice.

We're heading off tomorrow morning to Germany, and are now viewing around 17 hotels. I think we'll have a better idea of everything when we get back, and hopefully have shortlisted a couple to go back and view again

Its pretty exciting, its an all new venture for both us, as we are both in IT currently. The advice on this board has been invaluable so far, so thanks to everyone smile

Will post when we're back with news

I know its been a while but just an update on this.

We are just signing contracts on a hotel in Bavaria biggrin It took us a year, and visited more than 30 hotels in that time (not only Germany but France also) before we found the right one. But we are really pleased with the choice we have made.

We plan to take over in Mid November.

A big thanks to all those who helped us on here with this process, without the posts on here we'd never have got the valuable information we needed.

And if your interested in which hotel it is, this is the website we're just finishing work on- currently hosted on our own server before it goes live on the existing hotels domain once we take over in November.

(Current owners website is http://www.schaefflerstubn.de/ )

Feedback on new website also very gratefully received.

Seems a way out in the woods! but still a lovely location. Bayerische Wald is not so accessible without a car, perhaps you'd do an opening weekend for the German/Swiss/Austrian PHers as soon as the roads are driveable again.....?
You need a lot of information on other things (glassmaking area, visits to glassworks etc) and hooning roads around there (not on the open part of the site as the Polizei do follow up on recommended hoons with Blitzern!) as well as just skiing, biking and walking.....

Have you thought of how your target GB customers would get to you? as your nearest airport is far away and train connections are non-existant... would you collect them at an airport? People arriving by car would need good advice on routes to/from UK....

Your site seems fine although you'll obviously have to do a lot of work getting it into correct german, as I'd think the majority of your customers would be from the german speaking world.

Just my first comments, and wishing you all success with this!

You need to do a lot of work on the german texts as they are very anglicised german and has lots of Fehler!

That looks really nice. I could chill out there, no problem. Personally I think Germany is the world's most under-rated tourist destination, courtesy of people like Clarkson who don't know what they are talking about. I had a week touring in Bavaria in August and it was a delight. Are there any Freibads near you?

The website is excellent, far better than the previous one, terrific photographs, links to Google Earth great, and all the information you need. As stated by others the German sounds a little alien. All the same it looks a delightful spot and good for some skiing as well. The close up of the Wienerschnitzel is mouthwatering.

I am sure that you will have a lot of work ahead of you, but wish you the best of success.

Now, what were you saying about deals for Pistonheads regulars?

Of course we will do some fantastic deals for PH members! Once we've taken over I'll make sure I post with a great offer smile

JMGS4: Thanks for the feedback. The German has now been read through and corrected by my German cousin, so we should be looking much better now in terms of good written German. However of course if you do see anything still wrong let me know, and we can run it by them again.

We know its the far side of Germany for English, however Bavaria is still the most popular tourist region and we hope with some good targeting to Brits many will enjoy the drive. Alternately, Munich Airport is just over an hour away, and we rented a very nice Peugeot RCZ for 4 days for only £100 from Sixt last month.

13DJP, we look forward very much to see you, pop your email in our newsletter box on http://lovelyhotels.co.uk/ss2/ and I'll make sure we send you some good offers in addition to the PH discounts smile

Cardingankid, Thanks also for the feedback.. Yep, there is a Freibad in Bischofsmais, just 3km down the road.

I'll get a Wienerschnitzel ready for you smile In fact here is our Menu so you can choose a starter also! http://lovelyhotels.co.uk/ss2/en/menu.htm
