I am planning a family holiday in Bavaria, probably in July, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a child friendly (boys aged 10 and 15) hotel. Location could be pretty well anywhere in Southern Bavaria, maybe towards the Berchtesgaden end with a view to excursions to places like Salzburg.

Nice walking countryside, traditional style, good standard of food, convenience to Freibad locations would all be a plus.

We will drive out and back, and stay in small hotels en route.

Anything you can suggest would be appreciated!

Comments such as 'Don't go there try here instead' are also welcome.

I plan to go by the Nurburgring en route so I will be looking for somewhere close by in the Eifel for an overnight stay, and am also planning to visit the new Porsche Museum and Mercedes, so we will need a base for a couple of nights anyway in or around Stuttgart.

there are lots of nice places to stay in the eifel, loads of small holiday apartments

there's a big Freibad at Cochem, and a wildlife park/zoo with some fairground rides for kids there too, not too far from the ring

Anything in the five lakes region south of Munich
would suit.

All day playing in / on the lakes, Alps an hour's drive or
less away and Munich easily available on suburban commuter
railway lines.

I've had many a happy summer holiday in the Ober Bayern region.

I would suggest this place www.pension-williams.com it is English run, very friendly & amazing value. About an hour or so from the Merc. & porsche museums.

I feel very confident about recomending the place as I own & run it!

One I can recommend is just over the border in Austria, near Saalfelden, the Hotel Hintermoos in Hintermoos. Stayed there intermittently for the last 30 years...

Good prices, nice rooms and 1/2 or full board. Childrens playground, and walks everywhere. About 3/4 hour to Salzburg. Don't miss Werfen and the Ice caves on the otehr side of the valley from Werfen, "Eisriesenwelt" IIRR

I can recommend the Blaue Ecke near the Ring.
