Hi guys, we're thinking about going on a family holiday to the Black Forest in early September - does anyone have any recommendations for places to visit etc. I've had a look on a few tourist websites but the area is so big it's hard to know where to start. It's a bit off the beaten track for us Brits too so there isn't a stack of information on the net.

The South appeals as we like lakes and mountains (we go to Austria a fair bit) but we are quite happy in the great outdoors generally. We usually like to go cycling and walking but this year we will have our 7 month old son with us which will slow us down a fair bit. Still hoping to rent a baby trailer and do some gentle cycling away from the roads.

Any advice greatly appreciated smile

Benny, the best area is the southern black forest i.e.Freiburg and south. Excellent hooning roads, excellent food, relatively cheap hotels etc
Excellent museums within reach (Bugatti, Steam, and fabric museums in Mulhouse, print and paper as well as the Van Goch exhibition in Basel) Plenty for the children as well. If you want more info PM me,as I've been living here for 25 years! John

I love this hotel - stayed quite a few times - lovely area, great pub/restraunt just around the corner, very reasonable price, great roads...

Cheers guys. We were thinking of the Freiburg/South area so will definitely head that way now.

That hotel looks great for what we need, will send them an e-mail this week smile

Benny

Sorry I saw your post only now. I am from the Black Forest, Freiburg specifically, and had just taken my classic 911 from London to a tour through the Black Forest - could give you some hints, both nice roads and places.

Cheers

Just to update this we had a fabulous 10 days in the Black Forest at the start of September. We stayed in Lenzkirch which is not far from Titisee and Schluchsee, but to honest, the whole area is beautiful. I doubt you'd go far wrong staying anywhere in the area. it was a good time of year to go too, with most of the tourists gone and not one English word heard the whole time we were there smile

We had plenty of days out; Freiburg, Titisee, Schluchsee, Feldberg, Bodensee, Stein am Rhein, Schaffhausen, Todtmoos, plus loads more I can't remember.

Just wish I'd been driving something other than my wife's Honda CRV, as most of the roads are fantastic. Oh well, maybe I'll get to take the Porsche to it's birthplace one day smile
