I've just moved to Germany and I have brought my TVR Chimaera 400 with me. I've unfortunately got to sell her due to work commitments. Are there any German laws or requirements I need to be aware of. I'm already in the process of changing my front lights to LHD and swap the reverse and fog light over on the rear. Are there any other changes I need to make to make the car legal in Germany.
Thanks in Advance.

In order to get the documents to register it; you'll need a Vollabnahme, made by the TÜV. That's a thorough examination of the car, to check it's safe to drive, and complies to all regulations.

Best would be to talk to a workshop that has experience with TVRs. It will also easier for you to register it first time, since there's more tolerance if the car is part of your house move.

Hi Gary,

try a post in the German TVR Forum. They will gladly assist you - even if you're posting in English.

depends what date fo 1st reg your car is you need to pass some emmission checks. if you dont have a cat fitted it might get tricky, because all cars above 2l engine capacitiy MUST have a controlled catylytic converter after reg-date 1996

but there is an exeption:

when you declare your car as "relocation good" your regional council ( Regierungspräsidium ) can issue such a certificate of exemption and you do not have to pass the strict emmision laws....but the worse your emission class is the more tax you have to pay.

tax is calculated on the engine size and the emission class (euro1, euro2, euro3, euro4 ...) and the emmision code.

its calculated per 100cc engine size..so your yearly tax might be 300 or even 600 euro.

but finally you also have to pass the german MOT, called TÜV. the test wil be done due to §21.
