I have been to Spa and the Nordschleife a fair number of times. I read an article a few years ago that there is a lightly used stretch of autobahn in the region that pretty much goes to a dead end.

Has anyone got an idea of location ??

Have been there a few times with friends. Standing or rolling starts are possible. Quite easy to get up to serious speeds before hitting the first Ausfahrt too.

Based on the last 30+ years driving on many autobahns, can I offer
the practical experience that I keep my speed downto 200 kmh (125 mph)
on the two lanes each way sections of autobahn.

Due to unexpected lane changers, going any faster is substantially more risky.
The Germans are AFAIK the best drivers in Europe, but even they make mistakes,
occasionally.

I now save my 200-250 kmh burnups for the three and four lanes
each way sections of autobahn. List available on request.

Absolutely would appreciate that. I have done a number of runs, typical at 4am on Sunday mornings with the right weather and new tires. Have hit around 337 max but not recently.

I've been driving on them for 20 years, and still do, every day wink

The point is, because this one ends in a field, it starts in a field. That means if you wait a minute or two at the "start", you know for a fact that you will not see anybody until at least the first Ausfahrt. Which is far enough away to get up to 300+ easy.

North of a line from Duesseldorf to Dresden I don't know about,
but these are old favourites:

A4 Aachen to Koeln - 2/3 lanes each way. 230 kph no problem. Gets a
few Belgies on it, so watch out.

A5 Frankfurt to Darmstadt - 4 lanes each way. The world and his
wife uses this one, flat out normally. 240 kph in my old E39 here.
Old ladies on their way to church on a Sunday morning in
their Nissan Micras do 180 kph here. Every one else goes faster ;->

A8 Augsburg to Munchen - 3 lanes each way. Reworked a few years ago, lovely long sightlines.
Personal best of 250 kph in my unreliable E91 here.

A96 Landshut to Munchen only some 3 lanes each way but the local users
always seem to run flat out all the time. Don't drop below 200kph here.

Most sparsely trafficked road I've experienced in Germany is the A27 heading south from Bremerhaven on a Sunday morning, some years ago - you could have maxed anything. No trucks on Sunday ( without special permit).

Worst piece of Autobahn I've driven was the A11 ( corrugated to buggery), north of Berlin towards Poland. Drove it first ( 2001), before it was renovated. I was in a 928GTS & jarring my teeth, being passed by Trabis. On the way home, between Berlin & Cologne, I lost the front half of the plastic under motor shield at about 230 kph. Limped home in the slow lane with bewildered looks from other traffic as the remaining half flapped & shuddered in the breeze at anything above 100kph.

Best section I have founded in my few trips to the ring is the (1) which is north west of Nurburg. if you are travelling Southbound that is the sudden dead end that was spoken of. It just suddenly goes to 1 lane and down to a much lower speed limit

You mention special permit which is true but the rules are wider:
Not allowed trucks over 7.5 tons for commercial purposes unless carrying perishable food products. This means you will likely see bigger trucks carrying urgent food deliveries, going to the occasional truck and car meets and of course heavy breakdown trucks and police and emergency trucks.

Enjoy the roads and keep an eye out.

Try the A96 from Lindau to Memmingen, have often done more than 320kph there in the past...
BUT watch out for daft Swiss, either doing 120kph in the outside lane deliberately slowing you down or the nutjob Swiss who overtake on the inside at speeds which'd make a cheetah cry..... Had one overtake me on the right when doing 260kph and virtually no sightline...

The A95 München to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is good for high speed runs, but you have to time it right. Otherwise it can be pretty dangerous because it is only 2-lanes and the weather can change quiet quickly. If you get on it early in the morning, and the sun is shining, then full gas. In the winter, once you get to GAP, you go skiing; in the summer, you just carry on into the mountains and Austria.
