I have a few weeks work in Cologne very soon. Does anyone know of some good options for places to stay or rooms to rent as hotel costs would add up very quickly!

I'm planning on driving over there - is there anything be to aware of driving in the city?

Any other tips/things to do in the area?

Check out the "City Center Pollution" sticky thread at top of page,
you will need a green sticker issued for your car othwise no entry to cities (or €€ ticket).

Hi Benni, thanks for that but I don't think I can order one in time! I guess that leaves me the option of risking going without or trying to get one when I am there without speaking German...

Do you know how they catch/fine you? I guess they can't do it in the post for UK reg car...

Fortunately my work will be outside the zone so I shouldn't need to have the car inside it too much!

The emissions stickers only take a few days usually, I order mine from this place, took 4 days from web order to arriving in the post in May this year, just 6 euro https://www.berlin.de/labo/kfz/dienstleistungen/fe...

Cheers! Do I understand correctly that Yellow and Green badges are allowed in Cologne? Looks like my 05 Clio only qualifies for a yellow!

(From here: http://www.stadt-koeln.de/3/umwelt/umweltzone/ )

Edit! I misread, the dates I found were for diesels... petrol gets a green! For €6 I'll get one ordered - if it doesn't arrive in time then so be it, not much lost.
