I'd like to put a question forward regarding creating a business in Germany.

Are there any current initiatives to encourage new businesses to set up in Germany? I have been unsuccessful in securing the right type of investment in the UK for a patentable product I would like to commercialise. Both the UK and the US are clear as far as patents are concerned.

Once established, I would like the product to be distributed throughout Europe by Thomann - so perhaps the business could be established from the outset in Germany rather than here in the UK.

If anyone has any information or links I would be grateful if you'd post them.

Hi, yes there are numerous opportunities ranging from lost subsidaries (i.e. you dont have to pay any of it back if a certain set of criteria are met) to special credits both through the EU, the German "Bund" (the German state) and each "Bundesland" (the federal states). Unfortunately I can't give you a complete overview as there are numerous federal state owned banks, associations etc. that deal with it, naturally each differently.... Happy to help in checking if there is anything that could help though if you give me some more info.

Have you checked if your venture may be eligable for a E.U. grant or similar?

Hi, thank you for your response and I apologise for my late return to this topic. There has been a change in plan - due to a recent unexpected opportunity presenting itself, I intend to start up a smaller scale venture here in the UK as I feel that perhaps launching a product in Germany may be just too big a challenge at this stage.

I am grateful for your input - and if conditions are right and a Germany-based venture becomes a real possibility, I may PM you if that's OK.
