Any Austria/Tirolean PHers?

I've just accepted a new job in Austria and I'm in the process of selling both out cars/letting our house and general getting ready to relocate!

We're moving to Innsbruck and I will be working approx 20mins outside.
I've noticed that cars are not cheap, and neither is insurance!
Any advice for a first timer...is it worth travelling to purchase a vehicle on Germany/Italy and then import it?

Both me and my wife and relocating but will only need one car to start with, the public transport seems to be very favourable!

Can't tell you much, but I know Austria has some sort of registration tax, so when you import from Italy or Germany you may have to pay (a part of) this.

And the annual road tax can be calculated here:

Hi, the problem is not the austrian car market, it is their tax system. You don't only have to pay road tax, you also pay the "NOVA" which is a luxury tax an all cars, which makes running cars expensive in Austria. So I don't think you win much by importing a car, unless you take your UK car which aou are allowed to run on UK plates for 6 months maximum (Austrian tax police do check on this!).

Innsbruck is a nice small place and conviniently located, Alps at the doorstep, Italy and Munich in Germany not far at all. Should be good!

Ahh makes sense then! I will have an annual train pass covered by work which is approx a 20min commute. I would feel lost without a car, but something like a Fiat Panda (100hp if possible) would be great! a couple of weeks without a car seems like the logical option
