Off to the Oldtimer GP this weekend, first on the itinerary though is the Porsche museum in Stuttgart. We're hiring a 1er from Stuttgart airport.

Can anyone with autobahn knowledge recommend a route for some foot-down action? Looks like the A61 is restricted most of the way. Better to stay on the east of the Rhine on the A3/A5?

How long do you have the hire car for? If you’ve only hired it for one day for the trip to the Porsche Museum and back you’re not going to see any foot down action. Aside from it not being very far from Stuttgart Airport to Zuffenhausen the relevant sections of autobahn are currently subject to extensive road works, and are very busy even when there isn’t any work being done.

If you have more time I’d head south to Lake Constance (Bodensee), it’s beautiful around there.

Maybe I didn't explain myself very well, we're flying to Stuttgart, seeing Porsche museum, then driving to the Nurburgring for the rest of the weekend, so 350kms away ish.

Ah sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick. Ignore my suggestion, that's totally the wrong direction.

Yes, the A3 / A5 is mostly unrestricted. Some of the tight bends and
hills in the A3 can be somewhat amusing over about 180 kmh.

If you are doing less than about 200 kmh, please try to stay out of the fast lane.

Otherwise, you'll have legions of the 250 kmh club queuing up behind you,
wondering why you are going so slow, to say nothing of the Porsche 300 kmh club.
