Afternoon All,

I have now an insatiable hankering for white asparagus.

There's a chance I may be going to Germany at the end of June, however the article mentions the season is up until 24 June.

I'm assuming I'll still be able get some a week or so after this date? Or are the traditions strictly adhered to?

I haven't had any since I was about 7 years old, so if not I suppose I can wait another year.

Real asparagus is only available until around mid june as you've been informed. After that it gets very bitter and woody. So unless you're travelling earlier you've lost out. The main Asparagus areas are here, started about 10 days ago, Rhine valley from Weil to Karlsruhe, the area west of Krefeld (starting in about a weeks time) and about 2 weeks later around Berlin, due to the sandy well drained soil.
Or you could get some sent.....

If I do go this year, I'll stick to the lagers and the 'ring!

What I'll end up doing most likely is planning a longer trip this time next year.

I live in Düsseldorf, and the white asparagus is on every market at the moment. It is bloody lovely!

Where are you NoVetec? I am driving from here to Greenhithe, near the Dartford bridge next Thursday 17th. Would happily bring you some over if you are local!
