I'm visiting an important customer who runs his own small business near Stuttgart. I want to take him and his son a small gift. He is about 60, his son about 40 years old.

My colleague has suggested a nice bottle of wine as he likes fine wines but I'm not sure if that would be appropriate as it would be like taking coals to Newcastle or cheese to France.

Would it be inappropriate to take wine? Any other gift suggestions? We are not sure if he likes spirits as that would be an easy option.

IMHO you'd probably be better taking a good single malt, as they might be very particular on wines. It's extremely difficult to hit someones wine tastes, where a good malt is much rarer here than good wines
Hope to have helped

Here's the feedback. I went for a couple of bottles of single Malt which were both very well received. Going for the wine would have been a mistake.

The customer is delighted and wants to form a closer partnership.

Thanks for all the help.

A German here - great choice, would have suggested the same.
