I had an accident on the Autobahn about 2 1/2 years ago and with caused a little damage to the barrier.
I gave the Police all my details at the time and then heard nothing further.
However, about 6 months ago my UK insurance contacted me to say that the Office in Germany responsible for the barrier repairs had made contact so to claim the repair costs.

They did not identify the repair costs and so I asked my insurance company to find out.
I've spoken with them a number of times and also called the German Office in Hannover (phone is never answered) but nothing.

I dont understand why they would make the effort to contact after 2 years but not identify the costs.
I dont mind paying as thats fair but at this rate I'm going to charge them an equal amount for wasting my time.

Confused ?
Tony.

Tony, I had similar, contacted my insurance after about 18 months and wanted loads. My (german) ins coy refused without a complete invoice detailing all work done, which arrived only after about another 6 months.. these companies (or Werkhof) are usually extracting the urine... they bill for everything including coning off and signage etc...
BTW my damage would have taken a guy with a spanner about 10 mins to remove the one armco and another 15 minutes to replace it with 2guys. They wanted over €15000,- which my ins co refused..... I think they paid around €1800 in the end....

Hi JMGS4,
Thanks for this information.
Basically what it means is that they will eventually come asking for money.
€15k is a little more that I was thinking yikes
A friend of mind did similar and was charged €850,- without arguement.

One problem is that the barrier was already damaged in the section just before and so I dont know if they will try to lump that in. Also, I dont know if the previous damage extended into my area.

Thanks again,
Tony.

Hi Tony, I'd get your insurance to tell the german people that they must supply a detailed invoice (legal obligation in Germany) which they can then tear apart point for point. I'd advise them not to pay until such time as this invoice arrives... unless of course the ins co is just lazy, as most of them arem and just pay up to close the file!?!?!?

I appreaciate the advice.
It actually gets a little more complicated as at that point in time on my file but my No Claims Protection Insurance was saving my discount.
If I claim on this barrier problem then I will have three claims within the period and will loose all my no claims, backdated.
As you can imagine, this may be expensive.
If I ask the insurance company to argue for me, they may not want to if I pay the resulting cost ?

This is gouing to be interesting. ( hope I dont have to sell one of my cars wink )

Update.
Just had a call from the Insurance.
After 3 years the Autobahn people in Germany have informed my insurance of the claim amount.

I am out of pocket the princely sum of €193,50.
I can stop wondering if a massive bill is on its wayy now then.
3 years seems crazy to me.
