Hi

In the UK when parking in a public car park I have sometimes bought 2 tickets and then parked straddled across 2 parking spaces. This is so my door doesn't get dinged by someone parking next to me. The local wardens are OK with this (as vans usually have to do it).

Does anyone have a view (or indeed done it) on this regarding whether or not this would be OK to do when we visit Germany soon?

cheers smile

I doubt it! Most of the German car parks I have been in are the type where you take a ticket at the gate, and pay before you leave.

On saying that, where do you need to park? Most cities have excellent P&R systems with large out of town car parks, so no doubt you could park strategically in these?

Also, I have found that Germans are more aware of other peoples belongings. I've not received any car park dings since living here...

Don't take that as a given; I had a brand new Audi creased badly over the wheel arch at a trade fair parking, cost a complete new wing and respray around DM5000,- then.
Recently had a wimmin with her chelsea tractor swing her door open and scratch the bonnet of my car through to bare metal, with the comment "you can afford it if you can afford that car". She fecked off, but it cost her a fine of over €3000, 6 points, and a 3 month ban for leaving the site of an accident, refusing to give her details and then her insurance refused to pay the repair as she committed a crime by leaving. Alone the work, filler, respray of the whole of the front of the car (silver metallic) and the hire car for 7 days cost her another €5000,-.
My wife has collected numerous dings on her Golf at supermarket parkings!!
Certainly some more respect here, bu not what it used to be where someone would leave their name and adress....

Maybe I've just been lucky then. On a couple of occasions, I have seen the mother put her hand over the outside edge of the door when offspring are alighting. Was impressed both times!

JMGS, I am sure the bonnet incident was stressful at the time, but it certainly makes for a great story now... I guess the woman learnt her lesson there!

You do see that often here, certainly more than in GB, that's what I meant by more respect here.....
I had a bad one with that wimmin and her M-Class. Turns out she is a "beauty advisor" and is having mental problems due to the stress of the job... that's what she claimed at the trial anyway, when my solicitor tore into her! Perfume and lipstick salesgirl stressed??? Pull the other one........
