Tipping in Restaurants in France

I remember sometime in the 1980s all French menus became service compris, ie the tip was built in. I usually tip 10% in France nowadays but a French Friend who lives there says the french dont tip as it's built in. Well my question is, do the French Tip, and if so how much ?

Sometimes when out with french freinds they tip at times and other times not. I do the same. For me its how i was served,the food and the attitude of the staff in general.

I know some people that do, and some that don't ... so I guess it is entirely up to you ...

My French friend agrees with your French friend.

Generally never tip in a restaurant, unless you get exceptional service, and then €5, or €10, not a certain percentage.

Tip a few centimes in bars, perhaps the bits below the full euro i.e. 2 coffees come to €2.60, leave €3 etc. Waiters in Paris will expect much more.

Nope, nobody really tips here and the serveurs don't expect it.

I used to tip when on holiday.Now I'm a resident there is no flaming chance of me tipping.

I will tip where the meal warrants it. As previously said, it is certainly not expected in France.
