I guess my situation is not unusual, having assets in both the UK and France, but my personal affairs though are complicated. In the UK I can leave my esate to whom I like including the cat's home, but here I had always believed that my estate would be split equally between my children, like it or not. Now someone has told me that the percentages can vary but that you cannot exclude a child. Anyone know the exact position? Oh, and I assume that each estae will be dealt with subject to local law despite me being domiciled in France.

This is one that affects lots of us.
I have found the forum on Living France to be helpful, try this link

I have some friends who got round this by forming a UK company to "own" the assets in France
