Driving down to Spain on Saturday, does anyone know any hotels near Tours, not too far off the autoroute (A28), nothing fancy just clean where we can check in about 9pm'ish grab some sleep and then on our way again at 8am.

Cheers.

You have chosen a bad day in France for your journey; fortunately most of it should be heading back to Paris.

You could save yourself a few kms by avoiding Tours and leaving the A28 at Saumur, and travelling down the D147 and D938 via Montreuil-Bellay, Thouars and Parthenay. The road is 90kph but has plenty of overtaking slots and is about as quick as your route, but more pleasant.

You could then stay at http://www.hotelrelaisdubellay.fr assuming they have a room because of end of national holiday. It is about a 5-hour run to St Sebastian from there – I am of course assuming that you are not travelling to Med-side of Spain.

Hopefully the traffic will be going the other way so I'll be ok. I'm heading down to the Med side of Spain so really don't want to go to the West of Tours, may have to stop earlier at Le Mans but that means leaving earlier the next day.

It is a heck of a run down the A28 to miss Paris.

If I were doing the trip, I would time my journey to drive around the perifique during the early hours, say 2am.

Believe me I've done the trip a few times (last time being January) wink I've done it just about every which way you can but prefer this way, although I may have a little detour on the way backsmile
