Just heard. Oh dear, not good news for those that use this service regularly! frown

That's a shame, they're blaming it on the lack of commercial traffic since the downturn.

A shame it has closed, but I only managed to use it once as the timetable never seemed right for me - Yorkshire to Brittany or return in one day the times were either too early or late in the day for both directions, then this summer when the timetable was slightly better the cost was higher than the tunnel so no point. I used it for Le Mans in '09 when they had just opened the route with the catamaran which was great, but it didn't last.

The other trouble is that once again it is another operator less which will probably lead to increasing prices - hope SeaFrance manage to survive otherwise P&O will be expensive.

We're sailing back with them on the 5th, the last day the route is open to passengers! It's a shame as the port was being done up if I remember right.

The website says they are considering options to continue the service for freight only after September 6th.

Strange, they were saying the opposite on R4 yesterday.

Maybe they will decide in the end and it will depend upon the deal offered by the port of Boulogne!

I used them on a Saturday evening sailings a few weeks back. Booked that morning for two of us on bikes, it was £78 for the tunnel, about £65 for P&0, a little bit less for SeaFrance, but £25 for LD Lines. That price difference is 2 dinners out for us thank you!

That sailing at around 9pm was quite busy.

I used the Cat service last year twice, and that was good. Pitty they moved that boat onto another route.

If it was busy it is a shame they are stopping it - trouble for me as I said above is that coming back we still have to do Dover to Yorkshire and a 9pm sailing makes it really late, and even if I wanted to any cost saving which may have been gained would be lost if it then required an overnight stop. Something like 6 - 7pm is ideal for us on a return and about 11am outbound and LD just didn't offer this. I really hoped they would as I prefer Boulogne to Dover.
