Scenic route to Loire

We're driving from Calais to Alencon and then on through Le Mans in a couple of weeks - a much travelled PH route I'm sure!

Any recommendations for non-peage options or good spots to break up the journey would be gratefully appreciated...

one of our favourite routes was to stop for coffee by the church in Neufchatel en bray then take the road to lyon la foret then to Les Andeleys.
great road then lunch at Hotel Normandie in Les Petit Andeleys -not posh but good French cooking with views over Seine from garden
