There's dozens of them ranging from Chambres D'Hote (B&B's) right up to four star, so depends what you want. Try the tourist information office. website's in French but if you phone them soemoen there WILL speak English.

Beautiful area in the Loire valley, very pretty and lots of chateaux to visit. And wine. Oh yes, of course don't forget the wine. Hic

I stayed here for three years on the trot, for Le Mans, with the Bentley Drivers Club when Bentley were competing.

I live close to Saumur, if you pm me with your price range and dates I can probably offer some advice of the ones I know in the vicinity.

Dont forget that from 14th July to the end of August, France is on holiday and so it can be busy arround here.

I stayed there, back in 2002 after Le Mans.

Lots of character, good location and reasonable price at the time.

I've stayed there too (several times) - great restaurant last time I was there (about four years ago). Also close proximity (short walk) to the town centre and the chateau.

If you can afford it, the Hotel Prieuré at Chenehutte. Wonderful views from the terrace, sublime food. it ain't cheap though! Ah, those were the days when I had money - sigh

Most people here agree that it is trading on former glories, particularly the restaurant. Le Gambetta on rue Gambetta is the place to go now! but there are also a couple of fine, but much less expensive places, as well.

+1 for le Gambetta, good lunch. A bit hard to find, looks unassuming from the street. Recommended by the late Arthur Eperon 30 yrs ago in Travelers France and still spot on.

I've got three of Arthur's books, they still make wonderful reading material. His enthusiasm and humour still make me smile even after all these years.
