I'm going to keep this short:

http://www.coyotesystems.fr/

Get one.

Its saved me 6 fines so far since xmas.

Bl**dy fantastic - I hate to drive without it now.

edited to say - its a GPS based speed camera system - HOWEVER its real time, so you get mobile speed traps etc. Its super cool - you all help each other, its connected via GMS network to a central server. There are between 6 and 50 other 'coyotes' on the way to work for me - we all look out for each other and it really does work.

100%
over 300,000 people have them in France.

My 'flic' friend recommended it to me funnily enough.

I bought one recently. Brilliant, not been stopped since and saves worrying about hidden gendarmes!

How does coverage in remote areas work?? I live in Chamonix and ride around the Alps - so I guess there will be far fewer people on the road, yet alone Coyote's?

Also, can I use this system in Switzerland??

Thanks!

Its time has pssed i feel now. They the French plod, are more sneaky these days. Dressing up in combat gear, and now with wireless BBQs (the radar device), and the patrol car round the back. It's only really good for Autoroute driving (works well there), and main RN roads. Problem is you are always constantly on the look-out anyway, just incase. It's hopeless for the D roads, which I use to avoid the known check-points. If you cross autoroutes, driving near or on a bridge, you get lots of false alarms too. My 'abonnement', is now over, and my Mini Coyote is sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Probably sell it. My advice is to avoid high speed on straight roads, where line of sight 'les jumelles' normally work. Can't work on bends. On approaching bridges look up and you might see the bloke looking down at you. Fridays are always popular, especially around 5pm. If people flash you with their headlights that means there is a control up ahead, yet less people do this now. They normally work within std working hours. So early in the mornings you are more or less safe. BASICALLY DON'T SPEED :-) !!!! If you do keep it no more than 10kph on a 90kph, and upwards. Oh and be lucky...

Be aware that any Coyote that is not reprogrammed to just show "areas of risk to be caught in a radar trap" are now illegal as from a few days back. Any Coyote so caught by the BiB will, I understand, incur a 1,500€ fine and the possible seizure of the vehicle. So if your Coyote is still set to track any possible fixed or mobile radar, you are in serious danger.

Has anything happened to the company that runs Coyote? It's just that I cant update my prescription on there UK web site & I've tried contacting them on numerous occasion's via email & they have failed to get back to me? Pluse there phone lines are not responding? I have also been in touch with Cobra, the company that used to destribute Coyote in the UK, & they stopped dealing with Coyote around a year ago?
Just frustrating as Coyote works very well for me while traveling in France! Is there any other systems out there that is just as good?

They're still going as far as I know.
You could try contacting them through their web site: http://www.mini-coyote.fr/contacts

Wikango and Inforad are similar systems. As noted by lowdrag, they're all hamstrung by the law now.

The standard GPS warnings on SNOOPER systems were renamed high risk zones whether they are GATSO's or other types of camera to comply with the law. Strangely in Switzerland the 'no GPS warnings rule' also applies and has for ages but they still highlight the camera type on that database.

Last year I used my SNOOPER satnav in France and it highlighted mobiles and GATSO's etc. This year they were all 'high risk zones' which in the past meant 'mobile laser'.

This works well and there does not seem to be any additional or 'false' warnings, over last year suggesting the database is a genuine one not the 'compromise' being made available by the Tom Tom and Garmin 'mainstream' sat nav businesses.

Having said all that I am still avoiding France from now on for my Euro roadtrips. As a teetotal driver I see no need for a breathaliser, don't need a high vis in my car (boot is fine) do I really need a bag of bulbs that can't be fitted? And being nicked for 1500 Euro on an empty autoroute for driving perfectly normally, while paying for the toll through the nose, is now too big a risk. Not a driver friendly place for visitors or locals alike I'm afraid.

I prefer Germany and Italy anyway smile

Bye bye France.
