Renovation Costs

This will probably be moved .. I watched that 'Escape to the Country' prog last night where they 'said' they spent £120K on that huge house .. I was spitting feathers and had no-one to rant at - it was complete rubbish, and verging on the irresponsible to make people believe that they could get to that stage for £120K - they had had AT LEAST £300K of work done by the time the program had ended. The damn roof would have cost them the high side of £50K alone if they were lucky, as anyone with any experience of French renovations would know.

We carried out some work on our house in the Loire - and I can tell you the prices were considerably less then I would have expected in the UK.

That said, it was mostly labour costs, in a fairly depressed area...

you need to see what they did for the money .. I've had a fair bit of work done on my (pretty small) house at a competitive price, and they quoted probably about a third of what it would really cost

When you say 'Escape to the Country' do you mean 'Build a New Life in the Country'? If so I saw snipits of the programme myself, firstly why she puts up with him I'll never now and I agree about actual costs.
The thing is they may well have only spent that if they were able to strike deals with companies for materials etc.

I didn't see the much of the detail in the programme - did they have a lot of labour? if so they must have got materials v cheap!!

Everybody has different experiences and opinions about renovation costs in France but I think in general these days the overall cost is the same for both UK and France.
