Hi guys
Anyone know if I am being scammed?!
I have been living down in South of France for a year now, and have decided to sell my motorbike. I have advertised it, and have been talking by phone and email to a guy from Strasbourg who wants to buy it. He has now said that he is going to fly down and get it in 2 weeks time, but wants me to send through the Carte Grise first, for his insurers.
Having had a fair few emails from scammers, happy to pay full price for the bike as long as I take Western Union cheques! I am now very suspicious of everyone.
What could this guy do with a copy of my Carte Grise if he's not kosher?

I would not personally touch with a bargepole.

Having dabbled with "scambaiting" in the past, anything to do with Western Union sets alarm bells ringing for me.

As for what they could do with a carte grise - not a great deal, although they could in theory "clone" your numberplate (alot harder to do in France though because the department number would stick out like a soar thumb in Alsace-Lorraine!).

just scan and email the carte gris. Its a valid thing to ask for (i've done it many times before when buyging car, so I can get it insured).Just make sure hes'paying with cash or a bankers check (that you get validated..)

Seconded. Under no circumstances send the original by the post - a photocopy will do. Usual rules apply for the actual transaction, point to note is that I hear that bankers cheques are not as safe as they used to be...

Thanks Guys
Have emailed him through a copy of the Carte Grise as per your advice.....photoshopped the word 'copy' across it too, just to be safe. I'll take the bankers cheque to my bank first before releasing the bike, as I had also been warned about dodgy cheques. Can't be too careful.
