From today all local offices are closing and registrations will be dealt with nationaly. Also ALL pre 2009 reg cars will change to the new system, don't panic it it estimated that it will take 10 years. The new system is like the UK the reg number stays with the car. Changes will take place when cars are sold or a change of address occurs etc. Talked to a guy this morning at the CT centre he has a 1922 Unic , an old type of van/people carrier used for carrying shooting parties etc, he will have to change eventually.
This to me spoils the look of a classic, can you imagine the same in the UK?
I also wonder if some of the delays encountered with registering UK cars is due to passing the buck after today. If you can delay everything long enough it is the a problem for the central office.

Down here in Bergerac the Sous-prefecture is still processing all things Carte-grise related, just that whereas before you used to get the Carte-grise when you paid, now you get a temporary one. The full one is now being sent from central gov. Not that there is much of a delay, my full carte-grise arrived registered\signed for post within 48hrs of the visit to the sous-prefecture.
