I'm going to be heading up through Bordeaux to St. Malo in a couple of weeks - which is all very nice and Mrs. Marshalla is meeting me in Bordeaux (train across) - however the week before I'm going to be in Spain for work - which provokes the thought - will my telepeage box work on Spanish toll roads too ?

Can't seem to find a clear answer on SANFER or Liber-T or associated sites - does anyone know ?

I don't think it will. Different companies entirely.

Mine doesn't work on the Dartford crossing anyway hehe

SANEF claim it works on part of the Spanish motorway network - but it looks like it's only right at the top near the border.

Do you get these telpeage boxes for the car through sanef website or can you get em elsewhere

Im not bothered about the french lhd car I have its when I bring the TVR from the UK to my house in France - its a pain in the backside getting out the car all the time to get ticket and pay toll etc

You can get them at the offices at the large toll areas, just through the toll booths. But there is an annual charge for this so unless you look out for the special offers, free or 1 euro, it can be expensive unless you use the auto route a lot.

I haven't encountered an annual charge yet - there's a deposit for the box and a premium for using it each month that you do actually use it (i.e. no charge if you don't) - but the convenience of sailing through the outside lanes without queuing or having to reach over or get out to pay the tolls makes it worthwhile IMHO.

Have to admit it was some time ago when I looked into this, at that time there was no premium for using it, it basically allowed them to take the money directly from your account.
I may get one now as my motorway use is minimal but as you say it's better than queing but I find the credit card lanes not bad but a pain if you have to get out of the car when in RHD.

I live in the UK but have one of these as it makes trips to the house in France so much easier. They take money the months you use it, but none the months you don't. I've no idea if it's more expensive or cheaper than paying at the gate but it's a whole lot easier and if it is more money I'm more than happy to pay it!

Its no cheaper but as you say its a lot less hassle especially on busy roads.

As well as a refundable deposit, there's a 20€ annual charge for the Telepeage gadget. If one travels a lot in the summer, when there are often queues at the toll booths, I think it's a small price to pay.

And you also need a french bank account IIRC.

Ah fair enough.

Ive had mine for years and have never bothered checking.

Looking at the fees though, the uk version looks a little more pricey.

Still, bloody great idea.

There is an english site for those wishing to buy a télépéage, and they will debit your (english) credit card. As regards fees, I've had my beep for about seven years and wouldn't be without it - especially when driving one of the RHD classics. Saves a lot of hassle. However, the only fee payable is an admin charge of 2€ in the month you use it, so if you use it during three months of the year a total of 6€ per annum. I use mine most months but for 24€ it's well worth it. Mine has never worked either in Spain or Italy, but something you might not know is that Vinci run a lot of town car parks and you can use it to pay for your parking as well. That is also a boon.
