3 weeks to go!

BUT, the question i try and ask on car forums every time i go overseas with the car - do i fill up in Dover, or Calais???

For you guys in France, we're paying roughly 101.9/litre over here for diesel at the moment, and petrol's about 94.9/litre where we are. I'd give an extra penny or so for regional fluctuations, and a further penny per litre for the fact that the petrol stations in Dover can probably charge what they want - so say 96.9-97.9 per litre for the wife's car.

Told a lie there ooops!

Do, i fill up in Dover, or Dunkirk??

Not going to Calais this time!

Also, when i get to Perpignan - do i fill up there, or travel the 3 or so miles to Jonquera/Perthus, in Spain, to fill up there?

Was in France earlier in the week - diesel is much cheaper than at home (less than 1 euro per litre) - petrol is slightly over 1 euro - and was around parity.

As in England, petrol stations on the Autoroutes have a massive markup.

So, petrol is roughly the equivalent of 90p a litre in France, with the current exchange rate?

Quite a bit more - it's diesel which is cheap.

Thanks Puggit.

So, my French is rusty BUT do i assume:

That for example, Casino Carburant is selling SP95(unleaded??) @ 1.15eur, where System U Argeles is 1.54eur? Isn't that like 20-30p a litre more??? Does it vary in France that much???

A useful document:

http://www.theaa.com/onlinenews/allaboutcars/fuel/...

May 2009:

UK price per litre unleaded = £0.979 GBP
France price per litre unleaded = £1.0674 GBP
Spain price per litre unleaded = £0.8434 GBP

For a full 45 litre fill up, saving for making the 6 mile return trip to Spain might be around £10.

Worth considering i suppose.

(i should be excited about my holiday rather than worrying about fuel prices i suppose!)

I've seen €0.20 difference per litre between Autoroute and hypermarket - but that's a big difference!

The thing you're missing is the regional variation... I've not got a clue where "Argelès-sur-Mer" or "Bolquère" are also the 2nd once is the "Casino" aka Geant Casino aka Petit Casino aka Spar aka Continent... so the largest major mult in France (Think Tescos then go bigger) whereas "Barc ETS Argeles" looks like your local village petrol station.... so you're comparing Tescos with Murco in the UK.....

Marcellus - see what you're saying there - thanks.

Argeles-Sur-Mer is right in the bottom corner, right hand side of the very southerly bit - just near Spain. About 90 mins from Barcelona.

Over the last few weeks the UK price per litre has gone up from around 93.9/94.9 to 100.9/101.9 for regular unleaded and 107.9/108.9 for V power (from the cheapest sources in our region).
Cannot comment on French prices as not been over since March.

Based on the prices when over Le Mans weekend petrol is cheaper in the UK than France, with the opposite for diesel. I paid €1.44 for 98 octane petrol in Arnage - that was the most expensive petrol I saw all weekend however, typically it was a bit less than that on the autoroutes and about €1.20 at supermarkets I think.
