I have my Tuscan advertised on Pistonheads and someone in France has offered to buy it.. he wants to pay a 1k deposit then collect asap.
Sounds good so far....
He has asked for a copy of the V5 which set alarm bells off. I know nothing about French law - is this a reasonable request from TVR fanatic or am I about to be scammed.
Thanks
J

I would be inclined to treat it at face value. Let him have a B&W copy or .pdf and write copy on it.
My guess he is just trying to confirm your legal title in the car and the V5 is the only practical document you have. He may also need it to confirm if he can insure it here.
Possession of the car is the important thing and so no cash - no car. How he imports it into France, once you have the money, is his problem.

He probably just wants to check that you are in fact the owner of the car.
Although a V5 only shows the keeper (who is not necessarily the owner) the French equivalent - called a "Carte Grise" - does show the owner. You could try and explain this too him, but I don't really think it would be worth it!
