Exporting our cars to France - Please help
Discussion
I'm getting mixed information from various places, can somebody tell me the correct info.
I've sent the export part of the v5s to the DVLA, on the v5 it say that an export certificate will not be produced. How do I get an export cert as the Prefectures website says that a certificate of export is required.
Subaru have provided both certicates of comformity for our cars (both under 3 years old).

Hi
Have done a coupoe of cars in hte past year. Was not asked for a nexport certificate. YOu need to take the documents to the bureau d'impots (tax office) for your dept, and sign a declaration that all taxes (VAT) is paid. You have to pay a fee based on engine power I think, and then they then give you some kind of certificate to take to the prefecture with the paperwork you have, and the french MOT. The prefecture then issue the new cart grise. You pop down to le halfords for some plates and I'm your uncle.

Do they need a French mot being 2007 registered?
Hi Smifffymoto,Do they need a French mot being 2007 registered?
yes you will need a "controle technique" (french MOT) in order to obtain the "carte grise" which is the equivalent of your V5 (irrelevant of age of car if you import into france)
The carte grise will be charged depending on engine volume. I am not sure though if a surcharge applies for turbocharged engines...(I remember paying around 400 EUR for the carte grise of my 2,8 Z3 coupe imported from germany back in 05).

You should only need to submit a certificate of permanent export if you dont have the ownership document (V5).
Registering an import from an EU member state just requires:
Quittus fiscal from tax office
Controle Technique (less than 6 months old)
EU certificate of conformity
Proof of residence (EDF bill is usually requested)
Ownership document in your name.
Carte Grise is taxed by fiscal horsepower (which is notionally linked to engine size but defies logical analysis....)

you don't need a controle technique until the 4th anniversary of the 1st registration.
Advisable to take the bill of sale to the Tax office with you, even if you bought it privately showing all vat paid.......... for one of our cars we didn't have one so spent 5 minutes with MSword and all went smoothly
